Long-time Buy, Bitch readers know I’m a sucker for a deceptively comfortable shoe. It’s hard to find shoe brands that make cute, affordable and comfortable shoes in a real size 11 (a lot of 11s out there are actually 10.5’s, don’t think we don’t notice!)
So when I find a shoe brand that makes great-looking shoes that don’t take seven years to break in, I latch on. Kork-Ease, arguably a shoe brand for grandmas, fits the bill. Their sandals are extremely comfortable, attractive and there’s absolutely no break-in. They’re nice enough to wear to spring/summer weddings and aren’t too expensive. Highly recommend!
Two housekeeping notes before we move on to the rest of the newsletter:
I wrote about a Brooklyn designer named Laura Deutsch who turns beaten up Facebook Marketplace couches into the most beautiful things you’ve ever seen. I learned a lot about upholstery while working on this story. Read it here and check out her instagram here.
There’s a sponsored placement in today’s newsletter. It’s a first! Here’s some details on how sponsorships and affiliate links work.
What I bought
Two pairs (one and two) of Kork Ease sandals from Poshmark. These are the most comfortable sandals ever. Check Nordstrom Rack or Poshmark if you’re interested. There’s lots of NWT Kork Ease on there!
A great cotton “sweat dress” from Old Navy that I’ve already worn 4 times.
This skort from Aerie, which comes in tall sizes! My only note is that the elastic waistband is not attached to the outer waistband, so there’s some twisting. Should be an easy fix during my next tailor run.
Yellow furniture feet to elevate (both literally and aesthetically) some Ikea Kallaxes we have laying around.
A pair of patchwork curtains that will live in our office window while I embark on the months-long journey of making my own inspired by these.
I forgot to mention in past newsletters but I got an Omnilux red light mask and I love it. I use it 2-3 times per week and my skin is noticeably brighter and less red around my nose and chin. When I get facials, my extractions come out easier (according to my esthetician) and they heal faster, too. Use code SAWELCOME20 for 20% off.
Buzz Skin’s mosquito-repellent body oil. Smells great, is hydrating and does a pretty good job at repelling mosquitoes.
I’ve now done two dermaplaning facials at Sofie Pavitt Studio and they’re incredibly relaxing and satisfying.
Upcoming sales and pop-ups you should check out
This section is sponsored by Pinstripe, an app that makes it super easy to stay in the know about sample sales, pop-ups and even estate sales. I joined Pinstripe a couple of weeks ago and within minutes learned about the Mara Hoffman sample sale before it had even been announced. The app works!
You can save events to your calendar and even see sales/pop-ups and other events near you with their map feature (my favorite). This is a great tool to use if you’re trying to discover more places to shop IRL.
Using Pinstripe I pulled a few upcoming sales, pop-ups and markets that are worth your time:
A.P.C. sample sale - June 19-23: A.P.C. makes great “forever” bags that are super functional and not too trendy. Keep an eye out for the Sarah bag at the sale. I bought one a few years ago and its my go-to crossbody. It has two separate zipper compartments! The Iris bag is great too!
Not A Normal Market - June 15-16: This market features over 100 home decor, apparel and food vendors. Unlike a typical market or sample sale, a ticket is required. This helps cut down on the big crowds, tbh! Josh went to the last Not A Normal Market and came home with some really cool ceramics. This is definitely worth going to!
Onfemme x Nordic Poetry vintage designer pop-up: Vogue recently featured UK vintage store Nordic Poetry on their list of the best vintage stores in the world. They’ll be in NYC through early next weekend! Go see their collection of vintage Vivienne Westwood and please send me photos of anything you buy :)
There’s more! Download Pinstripe and discover shopping events near you.
Tabs I bravely closed:
The Madewell x Lisa Says Gah collab
I saw Vania NYC’s beautiful embroidered shirts IRL at LES shop November 19 and g a s p e d.
Had to close tab and back away slowly from the Bordallo Pinheiro tomato bowls
Another November 19 find: This candle smells SO good
I tried this dress on at the Ilana Kohn store last weekend and had to “close the tab” IRL. It looks and feels great, but I’m on time out.
It’s a water bottle in the shape of a fish. Any questions?
