CAPTCHA core: Inside Baggu's delightful Collina Strada collab
Let's talk about the horse-shaped bag.
If you’ve spent more than 10 seconds on TikTok lately you’ve likely seen people gushing over Collina Strada’s collection with Baggu, specifically the horse-shaped bag.
This is, in my opinion, the most exciting Baggu collaboration since Sandy Liang and the horse bag is the clear center piece. I got to preview the collaboration last week and later asked Collina Strada’s creative director Hillary Taymour how the little guy found its way into the collection. “It was actually Baggu's idea [to make the pony bag],” she said via email. “It was a nod to my pony piñata bag I had previously released in our main collection.”
If this is your intro to the beautiful world of Collina Strada, welcome. The brand is known for its unique prints, including some made with AI, and its commitment to sustainability and slow fashion.
I paired the horse bag with a big linen shirt dress and sandals at the beginning of last week’s Heat Dome and posted the outfit to my Instagram story. Here are some questions I got:
How do the patterns look up close?
The prints look great! I really, love the shopping bag prints, especially the Sistine Tomato and Spikey Puppy. A PR rep for Collina Strada told me that two of the prints in this collection —“boxer plaid” and “blue thorns”— were made with AI. All of the patterns definitely remind me Tumblr-era vaporwave and even old CAPTCHA graphics.
Need to know whimsy vs practicality of the horse bag
I don’t know that I’d call the horse bag practical per se, but it is surprisingly wearable especially in black. It wont be a daily wear for most people, but I was surprised by how easy it was to pair it with a relatively regular outfit. I asked Taymour how she styles it, too: “I wear it crossbody with a pair of printed cargo pants and a simple tee or over literally any outfit I have,” she said. “It's so soft against the body and petite that it's really wearable.”
Are the horse legs stuffed or shallow?
Stuffed! all kinds of things would have gotten lost down there had they been hollow.
How do we feel about the long dangling strap on the [medium crescent] bags
I don’t love the dangle. I understand the need for a longer strap, and I love that they’re so adjustable but I wish there was a better solution (some sort of clip?) for the dangle.
Do you think not having the tomato print on a bag is a missed opportunity?
This was a leading question and the answer is YES. I’m dying for any of the purses in the tomato print.
Do you wish you had the horse bag in the print?
No, it’s not for me but I have seen some fashion girlies pull it off.
Did you name her??
NO but I’m taking suggestions!
Aside from the horse, the rest of the collection is on existing Baggu silhouettes like the cargo shoulder bag, medium crescent bag, standard shopping bag, pop-up tent and more. The prices range from $16 (standard Baggu) to $138 (pop-up tent). Purses range from $64-$82. The horse bag is $70. It all drops today (June 25th) at Baggu stores and online.
I’ll be back with my closed shopping tabs after July 4th. In the meantime, here’s some cool stuff you should read:
