Live a little and buy a Farm Rio dress for that wedding you were invited to
Plus, I pre-shopped the Nordstrom sale for you because I'm the best!!!
Welcome back! Before we start, here’s a note on weddings: A bunch of you reached out to me in the last month to ask for wedding guest dress recommendations that aren’t from Rent The Runway and I referred every single one of you to Farm Rio, which currently has a nicely stocked sale section. Like, someone NEEDS to buy this and send me photos. Farm Rio also has an ongoing partnership with Anthropologie and most if not all of those pieces are exclusive to Anthro. I’m telling you, you cannot go wrong with a Farm Rio dress or jumpsuit!
As always, if you like this newsletter (I love you!), please consider telling a friend or five!
What I bought in June
Last month, on the morning I sent out the newsletter, I went to the Ilana Kohn sample sale and got an amazing linen button-down dress from the $40 bin, a pair of denim shorts ($75) and this jumpsuit ($125) in a slightly darker denim. It was a huge score because I have worn all three things multiple times since then, especially the jumpsuit, which I am wearing right now.
I did participate in Prime Day this year and got a new bed for Archie and Airpods Pro. The bed is Barkbox brand and I really love it. I got it on super sale but now that it’s in my apartment I can confidently say it’s worth the full price. I had to wash it almost immediately because Archie ate a very messy treat in it. The cover comes off easily and washes well. One last thing I will say about this bed, which is also available on the Barkbox site just not in this color, is that you should check the dimensions before you buy. Archie is roughly 30 pounds and I got a small. He likes to curl up and lean against the bolsters. They also sent a stuffed pea, like from “The Princess and The Pea” and he carried it around for several days (see below). I unfortunately cannot locate the pea at this time…it’s possible it’s been lost under the couch or worse, under the bed. RIP.
I bought not one but TWO pairs of Keds and I’m very pleased with my decision. I got a standard black pair to replace a decaying pair of Vans and then these white ones with yellow soles. (PSA: They are now on sale for $25)
I pre-ordered a bottle of Dieux’s Deliverance serum and it finally arrived last month. I’m a big fan of their reusable eye masks but I’m still TBD on the serum. I need to use it more consistently before I can decide how I feel about it.
I went to Target and saw a handful of dresses from the Christopher John Rogers/Rixo collabs in the clearance section and took them all into the fitting room (I’m not kidding). This two-toned pink number was the winner, despite its upsetting pirate-like sleeves. The dress ended up costing $17 so I’m happy to pay for the sleeves to get shortened and cuffed. Look how much better it looks with short sleeves and after a quick steam! Now I just need to get my ass over to the alterations place before summer ends.
After weeks of lagging wifi and choppy video calls, I made a late entry into the world of mesh wifi networks. I decided to go cheap and easy and bought an eero system. It took minutes to set up and I’m thrilled with the results. My wifi is now evenly distributed in my apartment, which is kind of a wifi nightmare because it’s a duplex, and the signal is way stronger outside. I got a three-pack but honestly would have been fine with two. PS: I don’t know if any parents read this newsletter but the parental controls are pretty good. You can set access schedules for certain devices which I’m sure would come in handy if you’re trying to regulate iPad time.
I got the Brooklinen waffle bath sheets as a gift and I absolutely love them. They don’t feel like much upon arrival but after a wash they are great and they dry super, super fast. They’re well worth the price IMO and you’ll get a 10-15% off code just by idling on the Brooklinen website. There are also many Turkish waffle towels on Etsy if you wan’t to save a little more! I’ve had these saved for a bit.
I’m not a big fancy bra person but a colorful Instagram ad led me to Dora Larsen, and I ended up buying a set. This is the bralette, and these are the high-waisted bottoms. They’re even more beautiful in person!
I’ve been in my current apartment for almost four years. Most of my windows face a shared backyard where I also have a little gated private area. I have never seen anyone out there but in the last year, my building has had a complete turnover and my new neighbors are actually using the backyard (the nerve! JK…), and when they’re out there they can see right into my apartment! I looked at curtains and blinds, but since I have freakishly tall windows (yes, this is a brag) I couldn’t find a visually appealing option that wasn’t super expensive. I then explored window films and ended up getting a sample of a few patterns, eventually buying a roll that resembles reeded glass. The film was shockingly easy to put up (I did it after a few drinks) and it looks really good. I still get light and don’t have to worry about prying eyes.
Tabs I bravely closed
I have no idea what a “cocotte” is and I WONT be googling it but this one is shaped like a tomato and I love it. It elicits anger and a smile at the same time. I contain multitudes and am dangerously close to starting next month’s newsletter with “Well…I bought the tomato pot. Anybody know any recipes??”
I just got new towels so I won’t be getting these but I love them.
I am not allowed to buy any more jumpsuits but someone should get this one and send me pictures.
I bought NOTHING from the Jungalow x Opalhouse collection at Target. But I love this rattan end table and this shaggy pillow. Also these floral sheets are very cute! I’ve had a set of Opalhouse sheets for over 6 years now and they’re still going strong. The other bedding is beautiful (look at this quilt) but the reviews are terrible! What happened here?
I’ve been eyeing this very low key jewelry organizer but the Etsy shop is taking a break. I will likely buy it when they’re back from vacay.
Bonus: My picks from Nordstrom sale, which starts on July 28th
These Marimekko towels are going on sale: Wavy pattern bath towel in purple, Wavy pattern hand towel in black/white, spotted bath towel in blue. There are more patterns here!
Chances are you need a pair of white sneakers. They may as well be vans.
This Oribe set is a good deal considering each of these bottles costs $48 on their own. I LOVE both the dry shampoo and dry texture spray and highly recommend. They smell amazing and always help me regain control of my hair.
The Aarke seltzer maker will be on sale for $198. I really love mine. It’s easy to use, nice to look at and it’s dramatically reduced my can/bottle situation at home. Tip: This comes with one reusable water bottle but if you’re buying backups, save yourself some money and get the Sodastream ones instead. The Aarke ones are nice to look at but eventually that metal bottom will pop off :(
Thats it BYE!
