Two Months of shopping, starring The Dress you've all been waiting for
Plus: The Rachel Comey Target collab, some CBD joints, and an expensive blanket I bought while spiraling about My Future.
Believe it or not, I had a draft of this post ready over 4 weeks ago but then kept putting off finishing it and now we’re almost halfway through October. Lucky you, I’m cramming two months of shopping into this post. Before we get to August and September’s purchases, here’s some rambling thoughts on fashion resale.
The resale market is booming and expected to double in size in the next 5 years. Buying second hand *feels* good and responsible, and resale companies like ThredUp, Poshmark and The Real Real are raising millions and/or going public. Tech companies are creating products that allow smaller brands get a piece of the resale pie, combining recycled pieces and new collections on their own sites. In the last month or so, Rachel Comey, Mara Hoffman and Misha & Puff, whose pieces are popular in the resale marketplace, launched their own resale programs powered through a third-party vendor (Rachel Comey and Mara Hoffman are both using Recurate, which raised over $3M in April). All three brands pay sellers 100% of sales in store credit, though Misha & Puff gives sellers the option of getting 85% of their sale in cash. I don’t really have a point here, I just think this is cool!
What I Bought In August & September
Brooklinen x Pendleton blanket: Listen, I had a 15% off code and was Going Through Something and I ended up buying a beautiful $300 blanket. I am taking no questions at this time.
Quiet Town shower curtain: You’ve definitely been served an ad for these tinted clear shower curtains on Instagram. Turns out, this brand has sample sales! I grabbed one that sorta looks like this except mine has three colors.
Cordial Organics CBD cream: I have frequent shoulder/neck pain and bought this on a recommendation from my friend Sarah. It really works! The one I got is “cooling” but they have a heat version too.
Dad Grass CBD joints: Ok so these CBD joints are perfect, I’m now on my second pack. First of all: No, you don’t get high. They’re great for muscle and joint pain, or just for chilling out. My only complaint is that the Mom Grass joints are packed way too tightly.
Wool & jute runner from Etsy seller: This Etsy store has a small but great selection of woven jute rugs that are great for high traffic areas. I got this one for my entryway.
Arq Bandeau: I love Arq! This bandeau is the perfect cut. I now have it in black and in “carres.” Both are great, even just as crop tops with jeans or shorts.
Chillhouse press-on nails: I got a three-pack of these press-ons a few weeks ago and was really impressed with them. It took me about an hour to get them on (this was my first press-on experience) and they lasted for over two weeks. My nails were long when I put them on, which I think helped with their grip. Overall, 10/10 and worth trying. I got “Groovy baby,” “Wavy baby,” and “Off Shore.”
Miss L Fire heels: I bought these shoes because they were the only appropriate companion to THE Mara Hoffman dress :)
A new rug: Hurricane Ida gifted me 1-2 inches of water in my living room. I’d never considered a water feature but now that I’ve gotten a preview I can safely say it’s not for me. Thankfully, the only thing I lost was a few rugs… so I got to buy a new one. I found one in a matter of days, which is a record for me. And lucky you, it’s on sale now!
A lash lift kit: I ordered this off of an Instagram ad at like 5am. I haven’t used it yet and honestly I think I’m too chicken to do it!
Rachel Comey Target collab: I don’t have enough time or room to show you what I bought so I’ll just tell you what I ended up keeping: Marble print skirt and matching top, this amazing denim jumpsuit, the shacket, the knit pants, the faux leather skirt and this Sandy Liang skirt.
Tabs I Bravely Closed
I keep meaning to try Skims underwear. Will this be the month? Maybe!
I am obsessed with these boots and I regret not buying them when they were in stock :(
This is a link to a pair of boots that I’m not interested in. What I AM interested in is the quilted dress the model is wearing that is not listed on the site. I want answers!
Look at this wiggly mirror!
Please watch the video in this listing for a vintage cigarette dispenser.
These boots with colorful wood heels!
Look at this shirt. Why is this sold out, WHO bought it?
OK BYE!
I was going through our links to Cordial Organics and found your Substack. That dress is great! I'm glad you found relief with the Restore Stick. It's a favorite.
