Whoops, I bought a couch on Instagram
Plus: Triangle-shaped pitchers, grandma sandals and more.
It’s Virgo season! Happy birthday to me! I’ve been busy clinging to the last days of summer AND writing a shopping column for Dwell! Read, share, etc.
If you’re looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, Orchard Street (between Delancey and Canal) has become one of the most shoppable places in Manhattan. Earlier this summer, Big Bud Press, a staple for bright, well-made basics, set up shop at 93 Orchard Street. This month, NYC designer and buy, bitch fav Ilana Kohn opened her first store at 57 Orchard Street. They’re joining an incredible lineup of stores: Sandy Liang, Wray, Suzanne Alexandra and Coming Soon.
What I bought
Instant Angel moisturizer by Dieux: I’ve written about Dieux’s eye masks and Deliverance Serum before. I love and recommend both. I hadn’t yet tried their moisturizer, Instant Angel, so when I ran out of my Cera-Ve I ordered it. She’s not here yet, but I’ll report back on my Instagram stories. (PS: Get 20% off your order with code DIEUX4EVER.)
Vintage triangle pitcher: My friend had her bachelorette party upstate and we went to dinner at Lil Deb’s Oasis in Hudson. Everything about the restaurant (food, drinks, merch, staff, decor) was amazing. I gasped when our server brought our cocktails in a beautiful vintage acrylic triangle pitcher and bought a similar one on Etsy as soon as we got back to our Airbnb. Looks like I wasn’t the first! There are a bunch online in many prints: Daisies, chefs, tennis players (with matching cups!), plaid, and monochrome flowers.
Kristin Ess shampoo and conditioner: I’ve been a Kristin Ess fan for a long time. Do not sleep on these hair products! I bought another bottle of the micellar shampoo, which is great if you use and abuse dry shampoo. It makes my hair feel clean without drying it out and the pointed tip makes it easy to apply all over my scalp. I also got a conditioner from their fragrance-free line and I like it! It truly is fragrance free so if that’s something you’re looking for, try this out.
Mighty Patch pimple patches: I simply cannot live without this! If you don’t have a box of these in your medicine cabinet you’re fucking up.
Rollers: I kept seeing TikToks about hair rollers so I bought some for my bangs and I’m shocked they work. If you’ve never used them and wanna try, here’s a pretty basic set.
Sephora order: I finished my trial size of this Anastasia brow gel and got a full size. This is a great clear brow gel with an excellent brush. In the same order I got a sample of this clear brow gel by Kosas and I think I like it better? Gonna do more testing. I ran out of Supergoop Glow Oil and got a second bottle. This is my favorite summer sunscreen! I used to wear liquid red lipstick all the time before Covid but now it just feels really heavy on my face. I took a chance on this Ilia tinted lip balm and I absolutely love it. It’s very tinted and moisturizing. It definitely fades/transfers but it does so EVENLY. This is my go-to red now!
Kork-Ease sandals: My go-to clog sandals broke so I replaced them with these super comfortable and light Kork-Ease sandals. Better yet, they were on sale at Nordstrom Rack. I bought them in black but am strongly considering getting a second color. If you’re looking for comfortable flat sandals, try these.
A couch (lol): I am a sicko and have post alerts turned on for the Dobbins St Co-op Instagram account. Last week, they posted this beautiful midcentury modern sectional and I immediately went to their Greenpoint store to check it out. When I got there I just couldn’t leave without it. It’s two couch pieces with a removable corner table, and one of the couch pieces slides out from under the table if you have guests and need extra room. I’d been thinking about flipping my apartment layout for a while, and this couch was the missing piece that made it all click. Now I have an office!! A tip: if you want to play around with your apartment layout, take measurements and use the West Elm room planner. You can find furniture in their database that is close to the size of the stuff you have. In my layout, I combined West Elm furniture in order to get something that was close to the size of my sectional:
Tabs I bravely closed
I had not thought about JCrew in a very long time but their new head of design Olympia Gayot reignited my interest. She does a ton of outfit posts on Instagram, recently featuring these silver fisherman sandals that I can’t stop thinking about. [lol…days after writing this I bought the sandals because they’re on sale!]
Someone buy this umbrella.
I like to open this tab and quietly cry once a month.
This is very cute for Target furniture.
Should I finally get loafers?
I cannot buy another robe but someone should get this and tell me all about it.
I want everything this jewelry brand sells.
This is so dramatic I love it.
mighty patch is amazzzzing
